The first generation of iPod
When the iPod was first released, it was an instant success – it became a window into someone’s personality.
In Walter Isaacson’s biography of Jobs, he explained that the release of the device made everyone ask each other “What’s on your iPod?” – Even President George W. Bush was asked by a reporter about his tunes at the height of the iPod mania.
A factory sealed first generation iPod is listed on eBay for $23,000—while an untouched first generation iPod might be a truly rare find, one device can fetch you $1,500 on Etsy.
Macintosh 128 K
The original Macintosh computer was a feat of design, engineering, and marketing excellence around a single product.
The initial price was set at $2,495, and Apple sold 70,000 units in its first 100 days.
A lightly damaged Macintosh can be had on eBay for $499.99 — but an expert told CNBC News that other units are worth between $1,500 and $2,000.
iBook G3
The iBook feels heavy by today’s standards, but its modified clamshell design and color options were cutting edge at the time.
It was the first laptop to use wi-fi and truly portable computing.
The iBook goes for a range of prices on eBay, most clustering around $200—but one seller with a bunch of iBooks orders $1,300 for one of their units.

The iPad was released in 2010 with a marketing campaign pushing the product.
An episode of Modern Family, the highest-rated sitcom of that year, was entirely iPad-centric—the episode was called “Game Changer.”
The iPad line is still up and running today, which hurts the appreciation of earlier designs — a first-generation iPad in good working order can fetch you about $55 on eBay.
The first generation of iPod Shuffle
The engineers working on the iPod Shuffle were working on making the screen smaller and smaller—until Jobs recommended getting rid of the screen altogether.
Jobs saw that people were supervising their own music libraries — whatever happened, they chose to put it on the device and listen to it.
Selling your first generation Shuffle won’t make you rich—one eBay listing was priced at just $13.
Products in mint condition will always outperform second-hand hardware – which is a good reason to buy a random Apple product, never open it, and hope it will go up in price as an antique years from now.
