USFL Week 6: What do you know about every game

We’re halfway through the opening USFL season and Birmingham Stallion (5-0) they bet their demands as a team to win.

But then, there is still much to be decided. Even the Pittsburgh Maulers, who have struggled a lot this season, took another win and it looks like they’ve finally found the quarterback they need in Vad Lee.

Check out the latest USFL rankings for RJ Young for a look at the big picture.

So what happens now? Can stallions remain undefeated? Can pedophiles build on their first taste for success? And how will the other teams compete for the qualifiers place just five weeks before?

Here’s a primer for Week 6:

Tampa Bay Bandits (3-2) – Philadelphia Stars (2-3)

Saturday, 1 p.m. ET on NBC

last week: Bandit Todd Haley has relied on gritty defense and a steady play-making ability for quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, who has started every game this season. He had one of his best outings last week, completing 15 of 24 passes for 207 yards and a pair of touchdowns — without committing a spin — in a 27-20 win over Michigan.

Jordan Ta’amu of the Tampa Bay Bandits throws a deep shot to Derek Dillon on a flea flash for a touchdown touchdown.

Meanwhile, the Stars topped the Stallions 17-14 in the first half last week before being pulverized the rest of the way in a 30-17 defeat. Defending running appeared to be a problem for Philly, who struggled to hold the Birmingham attack off the field.

Viewing players: Tampa Bay receiver John Franklin has only 11 catches for 127 yards this season, but five of those catches and 81 of those yards came last week, including a beautiful 43-yard touchdown. If he keeps building chemistry with Ta’amu, watch out!

Josh Banderas was all over the place with the stars last week. The 27-year-old linebacker from Nebraska had 12 tackles (seven singles) and three tackles for a loss, including a pair of sacks. Can he help the stars close things out for Tampa Bay?

Michigan Panthers (1-4) – Birmingham Stallion (5-0)

Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC

last week: The Panthers became known for their ground game, with Reggie Corbin leading the way. But that was all closed in last week’s loss to Tampa Bay. Corbin, who was out of the Week 4 Offensive Player of the Week award, was held 28 yards in 12 buggies.

Shea Patterson DIME Casts Absolutely

The Michigan Panthers pulled off a tie against the Tampa Bay bandits, thanks to TD’s beautiful Shea Patterson pass.

The stallions keep rolling, and their victory over Philadelphia last week was perhaps their most impressive game yet. Quarterback J’Mar Smith completed 77% of his passes for 203 yards and QBR 120.1, and CJ Marable earned 114 yards in 23 campaigns to earn Offensive Player of the Week. Talk about efficiency!

Viewing players: Last week, Michigan QB Shea Patterson finally looked like the star everyone expected when he was the first pick in the draft, completing 23 of 37 pass attempts for 304 yards and touchdowns. It will be interesting to see if he can build on this success.

Birmingham full-back DeMarquis Gates – now a two-time Defensive Player of the Week – is used to being everywhere on the field. He is also used to producing huge plays when his team needs it most.

Pittsburgh Mullers (1-4) – New Orleans Breakers (3-2)

Sunday, 12pm ET on FS1 and broadcast via the FOX Sports . app

last week: Fad Lee, signed as a free agent less than a week ago, captured the Pittsburgh QB center and not only led the Maulers to their first win, but did so with a dramatic touchdown move late in the game. His pass to Bailey Gaither as time runs out, resulting in a 21-20 victory over Houston.

Meanwhile, The Breakers struggled in a 27-17 loss to New Jersey. Starting with QB Kyle Sloter, who’s been pretty strong all season, he struggled against the New Jersey defense, completing just 41.7% of his passes for 155 yards, with two touchdowns and interceptions.

Viewing players: For Pittsburgh, watch back producer EJ Ejiya. The 26-year-old North Texas producer leads the Maulers in both total tackles (42) and individual tackles (25) and is often in the background to an opposing attack.

For New Orleans, there probably isn’t one player to watch, but several are on the offensive side of the ball, with offensive coordinator Noel Mazzoni set to return to the stall.

Matzon missed a match last week to attend his daughter’s wedding. Will his return help Slaughter, as well as the return of Jordan Ellis and receiver Jonathan Adams, get him back on the right track?

Houston Gamblers (1-4) – New Jersey Generals (4-1)

Sunday, 4 PM ET on FOX and broadcast via the FOX Sports . app

last week: The Gamblers suffered their second consecutive defeat at the last minute, this time at the hands of the Maulers. Houston averaged more yards in play (5.3-3.9) than Pittsburgh and outperformed the Maulers 130-51 on the floor, but the punters couldn’t get that crucial stop when they needed it.

Meanwhile, the generals kept rolling, handling the rippers with ease for their fourth consecutive victory. QB De’Andre Johnson passed for 213 yards and rushed for 39 more while playing the entire game for the first time. New Jersey’s only loss this season has been undefeated Birmingham in the first week.

Viewing players: Darius Victor is a powerhouse in the running for New Jersey with a height of 5 feet 8 lbs and a weight of 209 lbs. FOX Draft analyst Rob Rang has compared Victor’s style to that of a Sherman tank, and his skill is assigned to former NFL player Maurice Jones Drew. It’s hard not to keep your eyes on a player like that.

Speaking of bruised appearances, punters also have one in 6-foot-2 and 235-pounder Mark Thompson who leads the league in a 400-yard dash through five games.
