The Wisconsin Badgers sit on just one commitment in the 2023 enlistment class for several months, and they earned their fifth commitment in the past three weeks on Saturday night from bringing Nate White back out of Milwaukee.
White received an offer from the Badgers in early March and made multiple trips to Madison this spring, most recently on April 16 for a practice at the McClain Center.
Rated a three-star prospect by both 247 Sports and Rivals, White chose to stay home and play with the Badgers over other shows from Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan.
Wisconsin’s best player, White ran for 1,163 yards and 22 touchdowns last season in just nine games at Rufus King High School. He is the only player from Wisconsin in the 2023 enlistment category to have received a scholarship offer from Badgers at this time.
White was also an outstanding basketball and track athlete, most recently running a 10.9 in the 100-meter dash last spring.
White is 6 feet tall and around 170 pounds according to his HUDL movie, and the highlights of his young age are impressive.
The first thing that jumps out of the Nate White movie is his dribbling in the open field. He can stick his foot to the ground and quickly change direction. The Milwaukee native uses his athletic ability to jump through running lanes and overtake defenders fairly easily.
Reportedly operating at 4.5 and forty yards, the white isn’t limited to making a quick comeback. He shows his willingness to put his head down and run between defenders at times, as well as using his arm to extend runs. White will need to add mass to his 170-pound chassis, but he’s a dynamic athlete that the Badgers could use in attack.
Assuming white marks with UW, the Badgers will have signed four consecutive scholarships from within Wisconsin since 2019.
He joins three-star quarterback Tyler Gancy, offensive lineman James Durand, linebacker Justin Taylor, linebacker Jackie Keys and linebacker Roderick Pierce as part of the Wisconsin 2023 enlistment class.
White and Keyes will likely wrap up re-enlistment in this cycle, and the two complement each other well. White is a tricky back that can also be used as an off-court receiving threat, while Keyes is a more traditional power-recovering.

If the coaching staff wants to pursue a third tail in the class, Dylan Edwards and JT Smith are the main prospects to watch. Edwards recently included Wisconsin in his top 10 list, while Smith has been on campus several times and the Badgers have a great relationship in his high school.
With Chez Mellusi, Isaac Guerendo and Brady Schipper entering their senior seasons, Wisconsin needed to add depth to its position in the 2023 class, and it looks like the crew has already done so.
It’s still early days, but new linebacker coach Al Johnson who locked in two key goals ahead of June should be seen as a success.
